Workman | 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” — 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) God has always valued hard work. Throughout Scripture, He commends diligence, condemns laziness, and blesses those who faithfully labor with their hands. Whether a man is farming a field, building a house, raising a family, or serving in his occupation, God desires His people to be workers. But 2 Timothy 2:15 reminds us that there is another kind of labor—the labor of studying God’s Word. Paul doesn’t describe the faithful believer as merely a student, but as a workman. Studying the Bible is not effortless. It requires time, discipline, patience, prayer, meditation, and careful comparison of Scripture with Scripture. Rightly dividing the word of truth is work. In this message, we examine why God expects Christians to be diligent both in their everyday responsibilities and in their pursuit of biblical truth. A believer who is willing to labor in the Scriptures will be approved by God, equipped for service, and unashamed in handling His Word.
